The Humane Society Legislative Fund of Kansas (HSLFKS) and the HSLF of Kansas Political Action Committee (PAC) was founded in 2016 as a separate lobbying affiliate of the Humane Society Legislative Fund. We are the state’s leading political advocacy organization committed to defending and passing critical legislation regarding animal protection, supporting or opposing candidates based on their position on animal rights issues rather than party or affiliation, and educating the public regarding animal welfare issues and how they can play a vital role in the humane movement for companion animals.

The HSLFKS is a social welfare organization incorporated under section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code. Contributions or gifts to HSLFKS are not tax deductible. Your donation may be used for lobbying to pass laws, to protect animals, as well as for political purposes, such as supporting or opposing candidates.

The HSLFKS was formed in 2016 as a separate lobbying affiliate of the Humane Society Legislative Fund, one of the nation's leading animal protection organizations. We recognized the need for public policy changes for animals in the state of Kansas and the HSLFKS has increased the public policy work of the humane movement for companion animals and continues to build an army of trained political activists.

While The HSUS and other animal welfare organizations tackle a vast array of issues in the education, prevention and response of animal cruelty and suffering, there is a recognition that passing critical legislation to protect animals on the state level must be an important component of the humane movement. The HSLFKS works to ensure that animals have a voice throughout the halls of our state government and with the state lawmakers in a position to pass legislation to address the suffering and abuse of animals.

No. Contributions or gifts to HSLFKS are not tax deductible. Your donation may be used for lobbying to pass laws to protect animals, as well as for political purposes, such as supporting or opposing candidates.

No. We are completely non-partisan and support Democrats, Republicans, and Independents based on a single criterion: animal protection. We have a single focus and do not evaluate candidates based on the many other issues that come before legislative bodies. If we were to consider other issues, no matter how important, it would be difficult to find a candidate to support. The HSLFKS believes that animal protection voters must be an identifiable voting bloc in order to gain greater respect and attention from candidates. When we can influence the outcome of elections, more candidates will embrace our agenda of more humane treatment of animals.

You can find your state legislator by going to www.kslegislature.org. Click on the Find Your Legislator tab on the left-side of the web-page and then type in your address.  To find your city councilperson or county commissioner, go to your city or county website.

Without your help, dozens of bills and laws will pass through Kansas government that do not care for animal protection or animal welfare. We will continue to operate as the United State’s second largest puppy mill state, we will continue to see exotic animals caged and abused, greyhounds forced back onto the race track and much more. There are several ways you can support our organization and become a humane hero for animals!
